Fesshole creator tells his favourite funny stories that have been sent in
He’s followed by Frodo Baggins, and is the voice piece for thousands of anonymous funny stories that would never be heard if it wasn’t for Twitter.
Rob Manuel, 48, from north-east London, runs the Fesshole online account, which gives people the chance to tell their best anecdotes – but under complete anonymity.
The father-of-three said he is the first generation of internet influencers – and has been running comedy projects online for over 20 years.
A lot of them have been crowd-sourced by finding his own funding. But Fesshole has been the most successful of all his ventures, and now has more than 750,000 followers.
Of course of the 200 tales a day Rob is sent some of them might sound incredibly tall, but others have even the ones that name-drop the likes of Chris Packham and Annika Rice have been verified by the celebs.
In January 2020 Rob was sent a story that said: ‘I worked in a call centre and had a call one day from Chris Packham. I wrote down his address and while backpacking around the world sent him postcards saying ‘Help, I’m trapped in a postcard factory.’
The naturist weighed in (not between a wolf and a badger) and confirmed this was indeed true.
TV and radio host Anneka Rice also found herself in the Fesshole feed, when a stranger messaged to say ‘I once wolf-whistled Anneka Rice and told told me to fuck off. It really made me think.’
To which she replied: ‘Really? Well, you clearly wouldn’t have remembered me if I’d given a cheery wave so all good.’
The father-of-three from Wolverhampton has been breaking a niche in the internet for 20 years, and started Fesshole in 2019.
It was the product of another account called ‘Anonopin’ [anonymous opinion] and Rob was encouraged after one of his mates said it was the perfect way for him to ‘moan his head off’ and do it without anyone knowing it was him.
He said during lockdown the account really picked up, and when everyone was vexed at the Government it was the perfect pitching stage.
Fesshole creator’s favourite confessions
Rob Manuel has been running the Fesshole Twitter account since 2019, and has picked out his favourite anecdotes out of the 150,000 that he has been sent.
Something that was incredibly relatable to millions of Brits at the time.
He said: ‘The point of it, is for people to tell amusing anecdotes, however it does often have people telling really heart rendering stuff and to remain anonymous. Life is jokes, its tragedy, its everything.’
‘I’ve got no great insight to the truth, not any more than any reader does.
‘Mad things happen to people, and you’ve got to believe it and have faith in it. You’ve got to have faith in people and good and bad things happening.
‘It’s life.’
Some of his Tweets have been retweeted and shared to millions of people. The funny anecdotes have reached across the globe, and has even lead to followers in Hollywood.
Actor Elijah Wood – who plays Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings movie series – follows Fesshole, and so does eccentric English artist Grayson Perry.
Others include Piers Morgan – who Rob has thought about softly blocking.
He said some of his funniest moments include a woman whose husband’s dying wish was for everyone to think he lead a double life.
‘My husband’s dying was to make people think he led a double life, we had three blackout land rovers follow the cortege and actors in suits and trench coats ‘observe’ the funeral from a distance. He was a bank manager for TSB and to this day haven’t told anyone the truth.’
Another was a woman who was seeing seven different guys, which led to her seeing the same movie five times in a week.
But the beauty of the account is that it is totally anonymous. Anyone can complain and it will be posted without even your email address being shared.
It’s almost as private as a Catholic sin booth, and a priest is something that Rob has compared himself to in the past.
Rob has now launched a collection of all his favourite tales in a new book and picked his best ut of all 153, 570 that he has been sent.
He is also taking Fesshole to the stage, and will be performing another live show in December.
