Alice’s parents, Christopher and Rebecca, happily posed for photos with their daughter after a “lovely and totally unexpected surprise”.
The photographer present said it would the moment “to be talked about all her life”. The King’s attendance at this Christening comes after he was unable to attend that of his granddaughter, Lilibet, in California on March 3.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told US magazine People that their daughter was christened at their Montecito home in California on March 3.
They later claimed the King, Queen Consort, and Prince and Princess of Wales had been invited, but neither attended.
However, it is unlikely the King would have been able to travel to the Christening over security concerns and pressing affairs of state in the UK.
Around 20 to 30 people are thought to have attended Lilibet’s Christening, including Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, and entertainment mogul Tyler Perry.
Mr Perry told makers of a Netflix documentary featuring the Sussexes that they asked him to be Lilibet’s grandfather. He said he agreed on the condition that he wouldn’t have to travel to the UK.
It was later reported that Harry’s aunts Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, were present.
