Carole Middleton’s brother, Gary Goldsmith, has revealed how he found out that his niece was dating Prince William. The British business spoke to 60 Minutes Australia about being privy to the “unbelievable” information. He claims that his sister “swore [him] to secrecy” on Kate, Duchess of Cambridge’s royal relationship.

Mr Goldsmith told viewers: “I got the phone call, didn’t I?

“I was in a board meeting and Carole had just phoned me.

“She said, ‘This might be happening’.

“I was sworn to secrecy.”

He continued: “But the conversation was, ‘You what? Seriously?’

“I couldn’t believe that this was a real thing.

“Even though you’re sworn to secrecy, the first thing you do is tell your best mates.

“‘Hi, Bill, I think I’m going to be uncle to the future Queen of the country’.”

The future Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met whilst studying at St Andrew’s University in Scotland.

Although they officially started dating in 2003, it did not become public knowledge until 2004.

Eventually the couple married in Westminster Abbey in April 2011.

Mr Goldsmith described attending the royal wedding.

He told 60 Minutes Australia: “[It was] unbelievable.

“From the moment we jumped into the car on the way to the ceremony that was crazy.

“Suddenly seeing her walking down the aisle with Mike was absolutely mindblowing.

“I was there with my daughter and we were just staring at each other going ‘OMG’.”
