Camilla has recently become the royal patron of Australian charity Givit. To celebrate the patronage, the Duchess of Cornwall joined in a video call the organisation’s founder, Juliette Wright OAM.

After praising the work done by Ms Wright’s charity, which directs donated funds and goods to people and communities in times of need, Camilla also opened up on a desire of hers – returning to Australia after the lockdown ends.

Speaking about her love for Australia, Camilla told Ms Wright: “Well I can’t wait for my next visit, and I’ve got so many things I want to do and see in Australia.

“The visits I’ve had there have been so wonderful. I love Australia.

“I love the Australian humour.

“I like the rather laid-back attitude about Australia.

“We always have a good laugh.”

The Duchess of Cornwall’s first official visit to Australia took place in 2012, when she carried out a two-week Jubilee tour.

During this official tour with Prince Charles, Camilla attended the 2012 Melbourne Cup, where the Duchess presented the award to the winner of the race.

Camilla last visited the country with Prince Charles in 2018, when they attended together the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Duchess already has strong ties with Australia and its organisations.

In 2012 she was made Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Australian Corps of Military Police.

The Duchess has also collaborated in the past with Givit.

In January, at the height of the bushfire crisis, Camilla answered Givit’s Australian Fires appeal and made an undisclosed cash donation to the charity.

Her donation was used to provide items including supplies for children returning to school and fencing materials to rural families rebuilding in the wake of the devastation.

The kind gesture came to light only thanks to Givit itself, who tweeted at the time: “Thank you to The Duchess of Cornwall for embracing GIVIT’s way of giving to help bushfire-affected Australians.

“We’re humbled & excited to share @ClarenceHouse has generously donated to our #AustralianFires Appeal.

“Thanks also to all who have already donated to our various appeals – Every #donation helps a person in need.”

During the video call, Camilla appeared well informed about the work carried out on a daily basis by Givit.

She said: “I think you’re absolutely incredible, I don’t know why nobody has thought of this before.

“It’s a really inspirational idea, especially in a country like Australia.

“I have to say how very proud I am that I’ve become the patron.”

Ms Wright explained Givit first extended the invitation to Camilla to become its patron – and was simply honoured to hear the Duchess was happy to comply.

Speaking about Camilla’s support, Ms Wright said: “I am certain the support from The Duchess of Cornwall will directly help to ease the suffering of people and communities affected by everyday hardships, recent catastrophic bushfires, ongoing drought conditions, and now Australia’s most challenging public health and economic emergency.

“Now, more than ever, we value this incredible support from Her Royal Highness.”

After having provided help to those affected by the bushfires, Givit will help the millions of Australian affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
