The former Prime Minister explained that he had to apologise for discussing aspects of a meeting with the Queen on the subject of the Scottish Referendum to Michael Bloomberg. David Cameron claimed that the apology he gave the Queen was “fulsome” and “done quickly” before an audience. The former Prime Minister claimed to have “learnt his lesson”. Meetings between the Prime Minister and the Queen must follow protocol and remain private.
Ms Kuenssberg said: “Now once at one point you had to apologise to the Queen, for telling I think Michael Bloomberg she had powered down the phone when you told her the result of the Scottish Independence referendum.
“What was it like having to apologise to the Queen?”
Mr Cameron told Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg: “Well it was a very upfront and very fulsome apology done very quickly at the beginning of an audience.
“And I think that’s all I should say, but forever onwards I have been more careful when cameras and microphones are around and I learned my lesson.”
Ms Kuenssberg said: “Did she tell you off?”
Mr Cameron added: “Obviously everything said at those meetings is entirely private.”
