Archie Harrison christening: When will royal baby be christened? Has it ALREADY happened?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Monday, May 6, 2019, at 5.26am, after weeks of anticipation from excited royal fans. The doting parents showed off their child to the world two days later, talking of how happy they were to have their son in their arms. Fans are eager to see the youngest royal again, and one occasion Archie might be seen could be for his christening.

When will the royal baby be christened?

The Palace previously announced details of the Cambridge children’s christening and has not yet done so for Archie so it is safe to assume it has not yet taken place.

As no announcement has been made, the date is unknown for Archie’s christening but an estimation can be made based on the christenings of Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William’s children.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were christened two to three months after they were born.

Prince George was born on July 22, 2013, and was christened almost exactly three months later on October 23, 2013.

Younger sister Princess Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015, and was christened two months later on July 5, 2015.

Whilst the youngest Cambridge child, Prince Louis was born on April 23, 2018, and was christened just over two months later on July 9, 2018.

If this length of time is applied to baby Archie, it is likely his christening will take place between Saturday, July 6 and Tuesday, August 6.

All Royal Family members are christened, and Archie’s mother Meghan was herself baptised into the Church of England shortly before her wedding to Prince Harry.

For royal babies, there are strict traditions that are adhered to when a christening takes place.

One such tradition is the gown the baby wears, which is known as the Honiton christening gown.

It is a replica of the dress which was commissioned by Queen Victoria for her first-born child, Victoria Adelaide Mary Louisa in 1841.

The original gown was worn by 62 royal babies over a period of 163 years before it became too fragile to wear and a replica was made.

Another tradition is the use of the Lily Font, which is a large silver-gilt baptismal font which is used at all baptisms of Royal Family members.

This font, like the gown, dates back to 1840 for Queen Victoria’s first child’s baptism, that of Victoria, Princess Royal.

It is also likely there will be a number of godparents, and according to bookmakers Ladbrokes, Jessica Mulroney and Charlie Van Staubenzee are the two clear favourites at 1/7 apiece.

Jessica is a close friend of Meghan’s and has recently flown home to Canada after visiting the Duchess and baby Archie.

Charlie Van Staubenzee is one of Prince Harry’s childhood friends, who had an important role as an usher at Harry’s wedding to Meghan in 2018.

Royal Baby Godparents odds according to Ladbrokes

  • Jessica Mulroney – 1/7
  • Charlie Van Staubenzee – 1/7
  • Misha Nonoo – 5/2
  • Prince William and Kate Middleton – 7/2
  • George and Amal Clooney – 5/1
  • Benita Litt – 11/2
