Derby coach attacked before play-off final as crowd wearing Aston Villa tops hurl objects

Villa secured their return to the Premier League yesterday with a 2-1 win over Derby at Wembley Stadium yesterday.

But footage has now emerged that could mar the result.

The clip shows hundreds of people donning the famous claret and blue jersey lining the road as a coach carrying the losing team’s fans makes its way back to Derby.

Several objects are hurled in the direction of the vehicle.

It is not clear who throws the projectiles but one suddenly smashes a window, causing screams to erupt from those on board.

The footage was sent to Derbyshire Live by a Rams fan, who said a seven-year-old boy was on board the coach when it was attacked.

“It was terrifying,” she said. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“It was like they had no care in the world that people were inside.

“We are currently investigating the incident, speaking to Ridleys (the operator) and the driver and all customers have been contacted today to collect more information.”

Police have confirmed they are investigating the matter and are looking to take action against those responsible.

West Midlands Police’s dedicated Aston Villa Twitter account said the actions by supporters responsible had let the club down.

It said: “Disappointed to report again coaches damaged as a result of persons on the green throwing bottles at a coach containing children.

“Actions of a few let everyone down. I will be reviewing bodycam footage from officers to identify those responsible.”
