Donald Trump's blog permanently shut down

Former President Donald Trump’s blog which he posted statements on after being banned from social media giants has been permanently shut down.

From the Desk of Donald J Trump has been scrapped from the ex-president’s website and ‘will not be returning,’ his senior aide Jason Miller told CNBC on Wednesday morning.

‘It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on,’ Miller said in an email to the media outlet. ‘Hoping to have more information on the broader efforts soon, but I do not have a precise awareness of timing.’

Miller did not elaborate on the ‘broader efforts’.

On Wednesday morning, the URL to the From the Desk page redirected to a page to sign up for alerts from Trump.

Trump’s shuttered his blog just a month after launching it to display his recent statements with buttons to share them on Twitter and Facebook, platforms that suspended his accounts for good after the January 6 Capitol riot.

Miller said at the time tweeted that the page ‘a great resource to find his latest statements and highlights from his first term in office, but this is not a new social media platform’.

The 45th president had 88million Twitter followers and 32million on Facebook before the platforms banished him. Trump falsely claimed that there was widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election and urged his fans to fight the results, leading to a deadly insurrection.

Trump’s blog did not amass the gigantic audience he had on Twitter and Facebook. A week after its unveiling, the blog garnered just over 212,000 engagements, meaning likes, shares, comments and backlinks, according to BuzzSumo data obtained by NBC News.

The blog did not have features for visitors to comment or engage.

Trump is continuing to hint at a possible 2024 bid for president. He has rallies planned in June and July that set the stage for a campaign if he chooses to run.
