A woke British man has been mocked after slamming the ‘naked, violent capitalism’ of the US on a first trip stateside – with a friend replying that NYC had left him sobbing.

The Twitter user, who goes by the moniker Phoebe Waller-Stein and comes from Cardiff in Wales, said: ‘I didn’t expect to get a culture shock, but the commodification of everything is on a level I never truly thought possible.

‘It is the socialization of misery and the privatization of wealth.’

Replying to his tweet, Dylan Lewis-Rowlands, a ‘proud socialist’ and town councilor in Aberystwyth, Wales, said: ‘I remember being in New York City and crying after one night.’

The pair have been mocked relentlessly for their dramatic responses, with the UK skewered for its crumbling health service, nondescript food and high tax rate. 

‘The first time you taste seasoned food will have that effect on you. Poor guys,’ John Laudanum said. 

Mike Gray responded: ‘How’s that tax rate working out for ya?’ 

Chris Tolles said: ‘He is a a Hyphenated British Socialist, and a perfect anti capitalist, fighting for the proletariat at a low end corporate Marriott, but the only one who understands his plight is another British hyphenate.’ 

Others pointed out that Britain was just as capitalist as America, pointing to London – home to the largest stock exchange outside the US. 

Art Ruiz replied: ‘I’ve been to London, it’s not exactly a socialist utopia.’

Another user called Strong_Potat agreed, saying: ‘NYC is not any more capitalist than London.’ 

The idea that capitalism could make anybody weep was hilarious for J_S_Millenial who wrote: ‘Haha just makes me love this country even more America! making dumb brits cry since 1776!’ 

However, another user appeared to relate somewhat to the two Welsh wokies.

Daniel Jones said: ‘Gotta be honest as a Canadian who occasionally drives across the US the physics defying impossibly large billboards are hilarious.’

Another person also took a dig at American candy. 

‘My guess is he’s referring to trying Hershey’s chocolate for the first time. No European ever gets over that disappointment,’ said Ben A.

Other users noted the disparity between the private healthcare system in the US and the free one offered by the National Health Service in the UK.

Doghouse Reilly tweeted: ‘Medical ads on the subway was the shocker for me. 

‘Americans don’t even understood how weird and sick it is to have connected health care with employment. The two things have nothing to do with each other everywhere else.’
