DeSantis' approval rating plummeted as Florida's Covid-19 cases skyrocketed into 2021.

According to the market research company, 48 percent of all voters disapproved of DeSantis' job performance.

At the start of July, 2021, only 38 percent disapproved of his job performance, and by the end of August – 51 percent disapproved.

At the start of July, 2021, 72 percent of Democrats disapproved of his performance.

What did Ron DeSantis say at CPAC 2022?

DeSantis was one of the first attendees to give a speech at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

While he avoided any mention of Ukraine and Russia – a topic many listeners wanted him and other speakers to address – he focused heavily on the pandemic and recent Florida laws.

He began by stating that a lot of people tend to criticize Florida, however, plenty are happy to visit for the "freedom" that it provides its residents.

"We protected people's rights, we protected people's jobs, and made sure every kid in the state of Florida had an opportunity to go to school in person. Freedom has prevailed in the Sunshine State," he said.

Wes Hodge, chair of the Orange County Democratic Party, thought DeSantis' latest speech was a bold move.

"He stood up there and talked about how free Florida is at the same time his legislature, not the Florida legislature, but his legislature is taking away rights: freedom to speak about being gay, being trans, freedom to speak about Black history," Hodge said.
