UK flooding map: Britain hit by DELUGE of rain before 40C heatwave – Latest flood warnings
Thunderstorm warnings have now subsided, but one warning for rain is still in place. This warning expires at 12pm today and forecasts areas of heavy rain. The areas impacted are East Midlands, North West England, Wales and West Midlands.
The Met Office warns there is a small chance homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
Where there is flooding, there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
As well as this, spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
Currently, there are 13 flood alerts in place, warning flooding is possible and to be prepared.

The 13 flood alerts are for:
- Bottle Brook in Derbyshire
- Loughborough Urban Watercourses
- Minor Watercourses in North Kesteven
- River Blythe in Warwickshire
- River Cole
- River Leen and Day Brook in Nottinghamshire
- River Maun in Nottinghamshire
- River Rea
- Rivers in North Gloucestershire
- River Steeping
- River Stour and Smestow Brook in the Black Country and South Staffordshire
- River Trent Tributaries in Nottinghamshire
- Upper Tame
Most alerts have been issued pre-emptively ahead of the forecast heavy rainfall.
The Met Office advises that up to 0.8 inches of rain could fall in just one hour in some areas.
Following this wet start to the week, the rain will begin to clear and temperatures will begin to rise.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Dan Suri said: “It’s going to get hot and humid for some from Wednesday, with the highest temperatures expected across southern and western parts of the UK.

“Not everywhere will see the high temperatures, however, as an easterly breeze will keep North Sea coasts much cooler.
“By the time we get to Saturday, however, North Sea coasts will join much of the rest of eastern UK in seeing temperatures of 27 to 32 Celsius.”
Across Europe, temperatures will rise even higher as meteorologists have warned temperatures can reach or even exceed 40C from Spain to Switzerland.
This is due to hot air from the Sahara, a storm stalling over the Atlantic and high pressure over central Europe.

High humidity could make the temperature feel more like 47C according to experts.
One TV meteorologist Silvia Laplana tweeted: “El infierno [hell] is coming.”
French health minister Agnès Buzyn said: “I’m worried about people who are downplaying this, who are continuing to exercise as usual or stay out in the sun.
“This affects all of us, nobody is a superman when it comes to dealing with the extreme heat we’re going to see on Thursday and Friday.”
