‘London is open? For knife crime’ Liam Gallagher tears into Sadiq Khan’s crime failure

Liam Gallagher insisted he would like to have words with London Mayor Sadiq Khan to implore him to resolve the knife crime issue immediately He also challenged the Mayor’s popular phrase “London is open” and questioned whether it was open to death from knife violence. Mr Gallagher told the BBC: “I’m not into politics and all that but I do keep an eye on it.

“I don’t know much about Brexit but I’d have a word with that mayor, he seems to not be doing a good job.

“All those kids getting knifed up and all that.

“The only thing that ever comes out of Sadiq Khan’s mouth is: London is open.

“Open for what, for knife crime and dying?

“But every time you wake up in the morning there’s some 16-year-old kid that has been knifed to death.

“I’ve got kids that are that age, you know, out and about, going and doing their thing, living and being young and that freaks me out.”

Sadiq Khan has faced stern criticism from multiple political figures on his time as London Mayor and his inability to reduce the knife crime epidemic.

US President Donald Trump has been particularly vocal in the last few weeks as he branded Mr Khan a “disaster” after three murders in 24 hours.

The President voiced his opinion on the matter by re-tweeting a post by far-right commentator Katie Hopkins. He tweeted: “London needs a new mayor ASAP. Khan is a disaster – will only get worse!”

Trump’s reaction comes after a man in his 30s was stabbed to death in Tower Hamlets in east London June 15.

He was the third person in just 24 hours to be killed after two teenagers were murdered in gun and knife attacks in other London boroughs on the day earlier.

Mr Khan said he was “sickened” by the attacks and the deaths of two teenage boys.

He said: “Our overstretched police are working around the clock to keep Londoners safe.

“They need our support to end this scourge of violence.”

The two political figures have been engaged in a war of words much of this month as Donald Trump notoriously took aim at the London Mayor moments before landing for his state visit.
