Traps set for marauding monkeys as primates enter homes and attack pet dog
Out-of-control marauding monkeys have taken to raiding and attacking residents of an Indian city in their own homes, according to reports.
Locals in Coimbatore, a major city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, have prompted forestry officials to take drastic action after a spate of vicious monkey attacks in the last week.
The suspects are believed to be a troop of five particularly aggressive macaques, with one woman claiming her pet dog was randomly set upon in her own home.
She says she tried to save her pet before they launched themselves at her too, according to a report in the Times of India.
Five monkeys also reportedly entered nearby homes and pillaged food.
Saraswathi Ramesh, a resident of the Raghupathi Layout district, decided to speak out about the menace to prompt officials to take action
She said: “These five monkeys entered my house on Sunday and attacked my pet dog.
"When I tried to save my pet, they tried to attack me as well”.
She also added that the thuggish monkeys ate grains she had left out for drying.

“The monkeys are a threat to us," she continued. "Therefore, we request the forest department capture them."
Saraswathi added she has been facing on going battles with the pests for over two months and yet nothing had been done.
In response authorities say forest officials plan to set traps and place cages on the Bharathi Park road, to capture monkeys that have been breaking into houses in the past few days.
Local reports say the issue was brought to the knowledge of district forest officer D Venkateshand assistant conservator of the forest M Senthil Kumar, who have sent out a trainee to set the traps.
Monkeys attacking humans is nothing new.
In recent times Indian macaques have been held responsible for ransacking government offices of India's top cabinet, laboratories and even holy temples – leaving chaos in their wake.
