STRESSED dads-to-be are more likely to have naughty toddlers, research says.
Cambridge University experts questioned new parents about their mental state before and after their baby was born.

A series of follow-up questions recorded how likely their child was to misbehave.

The results showed two-year-olds were more likely to have conduct and attention problems if their fathers had been anxious while they were in the womb.

Scientists think their stress is picked up by partners, affecting their hormones and behaviour.

And they said the findings show that a father’s mental well-being during conception and pregnancy is as important as a mother’s.

Lead researcher Prof Claire Hughes said: “For too long, the experiences of first-time dads has been side-lined or treated in isolation.

“This needs to change.

“Difficulties in children’s early relationships can have long-term effects.”
