Royal Mail workers could be set for first nationwide walkout in a decade
Royal Mail has been served a strike ballot for among 110,000 workers which could lead to the biggest walkout in more than a decade.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has served the postal service which could see a members vote over claims of breaches to national agreements and threats to the universal service obligation.
Members of the union will vote next week and results are expected to be released by mid-October.
The ballot could lead to the first national walkout in more than ten years and the first since it was controversially privatised.

CWU Deputy General Secretary Terry Pullinger said: “This union and its membership are in the fight of our lives.
“We face an assault on our terms, condition and national agreements like we have never seen before.
“I am confident our members will stand with their union and deliver a massive yes vote in what is the most important dispute the union has ever had.”
CWU General Secretary Dave Ward added: “Our members as always will stand up and defend their jobs, futures and the service we provide to the people and businesses across the UK.
“Over the coming weeks we will be launching a significant media and public facing campaign and we will expose the actions of this employer.”
The Royal Mail was privatised in 2013 and has been struggling with share price values this year.
Back in 2012 the Post Office became independent of the Royal Mail Group and 74 branches became independently ran by WHSmiths stores.
