Princess Diana ‘would have backed Meghan and Harry stepping back from Royals’

Princess Diana would have backed Harry’s decision to step back from the Royal Family, a biographer has sensationally claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex yesterday announced they will become “financially independent” and divide their time between the UK and North America.

Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, reportedly ignored instructions from The Queen not to go public with their announcement, who is said to be disappointed.

Harry’s brother Prince William and dad Prince Charles were also “incandescent with rage”, it is claimed.

However, his mum Princess Diana would have supported him and Meghan, according to a Royal author.

Nigel Cawthorne, author of Call Me Diana: The Princess of Wales on the Princess of Wales, said: “Prince Harry's mother Diana would undoubtedly have agreed with the wisdom of her son and his wife's decision.

He claims that Prince Charles remarked after Diana gave birth to Harry: “Oh God, it’s a boy” and “Oh no, he’s even got rusty hair!”

Cawthorne added: “He then turned around and left to play polo. It marked the end of his interest in her."

He continued" “The royal family will be severely damaged by this in the long-term. It is yet another dangerous instance where the palace looks out of touch with the young generation of Brits.

"The palace has been giving the Sussexes the cold shoulder."

Meghan and Harry reportedly took the drastic decision after Buckingham Palace released a portrait of The Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince George.

It was said to be a celebratory image, with the 93-year-old beaming in a white dress in the centre of the frame.

However, an insider told The Sun: “That picture was the clearest indication that Harry and Meghan are not considered part of the future of the institution.

“From their point of view from that moment on there was no point hanging around.”
