Prince Philip would have been "moved" by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s choice of name for their daughter, a royal expert has claimed.

Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday, June 4, and is now settling in at home with the Duchess of Sussex.

The couple said they felt "blessed" and thanked fans for their "love and prayers" following the announcement.

Lilibet is the Queen’s favourite nickname, and the child’s middle name is a tribute to Harry’s mum Princess Diana.

George VI, the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, and Philip regularly used the moniker, with the King once quoted as saying: "Lilibet is my pride. Margaret is my joy."

Brittani Barger, Deputy Editor ofRoyal Central, a US website focused on news about the monarchy, believes the Duke of Edinburgh would have been delighted with the recent baby news.

She told the Daily Star: "Philip would have been happy with a new great-grandchild.

"The name Lilibet is a touching tribute to Her Majesty so I'm sure he would have been moved that Harry and Meghan chose to honor the Queen in that way."

Diana’s former voice Stewart Pearce believes she too would have been thrilled with Harry and Meghan’s selection.

He told US Weekly: "As Diana was the personification of love and the exemplar of unconditional love, she would have been so excited by the babe and her beautiful names."

Royals are set to mark what would have been Philip’s 100th birthday on Thursday, June 10.

The Duke of Edinburghpassed away aged 99 on April 9, with his funeral held at Windsor Castle later that month.

Ms Barger believes it will be a "sad day" for Her Majesty, having lost her "strength and stay" who was by her side for seven decades.

She said: "She may have dinner with some of her children as a way of honoring him. She may also privately visit his grave to lay flowers."

Ms Barger believes Harry may also call his grandmother to "check in on her".

The Duke of Sussex briefly reunited with other royals after returning for Philip’s funeral.

However, he has made a series of damning allegations against the monarchy in interviews since – at one point comparing his childhood to growing up in "a zoo".

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams earlier told the Daily Star that the Queen would have found his and Meghan’s behaviour "deplorable".
