Pals of a Brit tourist who plunged to his death in a horror balcony fall in Turkey paid tribute to their "irreplaceable friend".

Anthony McDowall, from Glasgow, was spotted dangling from a hotel in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul before tragically plummeting 70ft to his death.

First pictures of the 29-year-old have emerged and devastated friends have taken to social media to pay their respects to the popular man, the Daily Record reports.

One wrote: "My heart is broken, my best friend."

Another said: "Irreplaceable."

A third added: "You will live forever in our hearts."

Turkish police said Anthony was in Istanbul with his American ex-girlfriend and another friend. In disturbing footage, he was seen swinging from the room’s window moments before his death.

According to witnesses Anthony then lost his balance and fell seven storeys to the street below, where he died at the scene. It is claimed he was trying to climb from one window to another.

After watching security footage, investigators said there was nobody else in his room at the time he was dangling from the window.

Police said he was travelling on an American passport and he is believed to have dual citizenship.

It is understood Anthony's devastated family are now travelling to Istanbul.

More shocked pals flocked to social media to pay tribute to the tragic friend.

One said: "I wish I was there with you to help you Tony."

Another added: "One of the nicest and most genuine guys going about."

Tony's former football team Southside United AFC, who play in Glasgow, also released a statement paying their respects to the keen sportsman.

The club said: "We are devastated to hear the news of the passing of Tony McDowall whilst on holiday.

"Tony played a huge role when we gained promotion to the premier division .Tony was a great player and more importantly a great guy.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends."

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman said: "We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Turkey and are in touch with the local authorities."
