Inside search for Sarah Everard as hunt for missing 33-year-old enters fifth day

The desperate search for a missing woman who seemingly vanished off a London street has seen police scrambled to uncover as many clues as they can as quickly as possible.

Police probing the mysterious disappearance of Sarah Everard have released CCTV footage showing the last known sighting of the 33-year-old London woman.

The image shows the marketing manager apparently using her mobile phone at the junction of Poynders Road and Cavendish Road at around 9.30pm.

At this point she would have been over half-way home after leaving a friend’s house on Leathwaite Road, Clapham at around 9pm on March 3.

The walk should have taken a little under an hour. Sarah’s uncle Nick Everard describes her as a "bright young woman” and “very sensible”.

He said that Sarah “didn't have any troubles and was fit and healthy. She was happy, she had just started a new job and she had a boyfriend.”

Originally from Durham, Sarah lived in London "for a long time,” Mr Everard added, so she would have been “very streetwise”.

But nevertheless something happened to the 5’4” blonde as she cut across Clapham Common and through the Oaklands Estate on her way towards Tulse Hill.

Sarah called her boyfriend just before 9.30pm, speaking to him for around 15 minutes. It’s not certain whether the new photo shows her making that call, or whether she spoke to someone else before her disappearance.

Police say they are "increasingly concerned" and detectives from the Metropolitan Police's Specialist Crime Command, which deals with murder and other major crimes, have now taken over the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin told reporters: "I would like to stress that there is no information at this stage to suggest anything untoward may have happened to Sarah.

"The focus remains on returning her home to her family safe and well and that is our number one priority.

"I would like to thank Sarah's family and friends, the local community and members of the public for their help to raise awareness of this appeal and for coming forward with information.

She added: "I would urge anybody who has information or noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact us if you haven't already. “

Family members say that her phone has been switched off since her disappearance and her WhatsApp messages are going unread.

Police have asked for people living along Sarah’s likely route who have CCTV or other surveillance technology such as video doorbells, outside their homes or workplaces to get in touch.

Sarah was wearing a green waterproof jacket, navy blue trousers with a white diamond pattern.

She is described as being around 5’4” tall, with blonde hair and of slim build.
