The NHS Covid-19 app has finally launched in England and Wales today, September 24.
NHS says it’s “the fastest way of knowing when you’re at risk from coronavirus ”.
The Track and Trace app is available to download on iPhone and Android, and uses an Apple and Google-developed system.
More specifically, it uses Bluetooth to keep an anonymous log of people a user has been close to.
If someone becomes ill with coronavirus, they can log it on the app, which will then send notifications to all app users the system deems has been in close contact with.
Further guidance on what that person should do will automatically be sent.
The app has a number of features, including Trace, Alert, Check-in, Symptoms, Test and Isolate.
How to download NHS Covid-19
Simply open the Google Play store, or the iOS app store, and search for NHS COVID-19.
Tap Install, followed by Open and follow the short step-by-step instructions in the app.
Keep in mind that a number of Brits have been unable to use the long-awaited app, because it only works on newer phones.
How does the NHS Covid-19 app work?
Bring your phone with the NHS Covid-19 app installed with you when you leave your home.
The app works in the background and doesn’t significantly affect your battery life.
You can also “check in” to venues by scanning QR codes with your phone camera, to create a log of where you have been.

What will happen if you break strict new coronavirus rules in England?
This makes it easy to share with NHS tracers if you should be contacted.
It’s also a quick and simple way for businesses to support contact tracing, while keeping your privacy protected.
In addition, the app also provides information on the risk-level in your neighbourhood using your postcode.
The app also has a symptom checker, links to the latest advice and the ability to enter a test result.
