Hero stray dog keeps tiny kittens alive by roadside in heavy snow
A stray dog has been hailed a hero after keeping five tiny kittens alive during heavy snowfall.
The pooch, named Serenity, wrapped her body around the baby moggies in a bid to protect them from the bitter cold.
They were all picked up on a roadside in Ontario, Canada, by rescue centre workers after being spotted by a passerby.
And Serenity and her unlikely brood had already formed a strong bond by they arrived at Pet and Wildlife Rescue in the province of Chatham-Kent.
The animal shelter shared pictures of Serenity and the black kittens in a now viral Facebook post, along with the caption: “Our stray sweetheart is keeping her “babies” safe at the shelter tonight!”
The kittens are now being treated for worms and fleas.

A shelter representative told The Dodo website: "It's truly heartwarming!
"It had been a very cold night so these kittens would have had a very hard time surviving."
"Our staff sees many difficult situations on a daily basis and stories like this one make every heartache worth it," the shelter added.
Now thousands of animal lovers have offered to give Serenity a home after viewing the shelter’s Facebook post.
Coralee Quinlan wrote: “This dog has touched my heart. As much as I wish her to be reunited with her family, I would also love to give her a loving home.”
Sha Lynn Osborne posted: “This is just such a heart-warming story, what a wonderful dog.”
And Cathi Hanmer-Griffin added: “What an angel. Some home will be so lucky to have her sweet soul there. I can’t wait to see who’s lucky enough to adopt her.”
