This is the nerve-wracking moment a rescue jetski with a stranded surfer in tow is wiped out by a massive wave as it tries to out run it.
The double wipe out which left two people stranded when the jetski upturned took place in Nazare, Portugal in February.
Veteran surfer Salvador Villas Boas was riding one of the biggest waves of the day when a bump knocked him off into the water near some rocks in Nazaré, Portugal.
As the second wave closes in on the stranded surfer professional jetski rescuer Ramon Laureano saves Villas Boas by dragging him out of harm’s way.
Pedro Miranda, who captured this dramatic footage said: ‘This rescue in particular was truly one of the most heroic moments I witnessed out there.
‘With more than 20 years of big wave experience, Ramon performed one of the most difficult rescues one can attempt in Nazaré.
Moments before the wave knocks the experienced surfer off his board and leaves him stuck in an ‘impact zone’ between waves
At full speed the jetski is not able to outrun the incoming waves as they crash overhead and overturn the vehicle
The two men and an upturned jetski are helpless in the powerful Atlantic sea
‘To pick up someone directly on the first peak’s impact zone between waves is something you don’t see every day here.
‘Ramon was a real hero, no doubt!’
Praia do Norte beach, near the fishing village of Nazaré, has become famous worldwide for huge waves.
