The horrifying footage shows flames burning through what appears to be the public shower area at one of Campgrounds in the California desert. The fire is believed to have started at around 2am with several witnesses recall hearing an explosion.One terrified festival goer wrote on Twitter: “Coachella just turned into a FIRE FEST. The showers just exploded!!”

Another user said: “Showers at Coachella campground caught on fire… ‘everybody out of the showers now!’ – someone in their towel running out.”

A third shocked witness wrote: “Literally just witnessed a huge fire in the campgrounds.”

The Riverside County Fire Department sent four fire engines to the scene to tackle the blaze. 

It said the fire started in a mobile shower unit in the Lot 8 storage area was contained by 2.30am with no reports of any injuries. 

It wrote on Twitter: “Fire Contained. Mobile Shower Unit in Lot 8 Storage Area. Total of 2 trailers involved. 1 damaged, 1 destroyed.

“No reported injuries to fire personnel or civilians. Fire crews will remain on scene for 1 hour for overhaul. #Coachella.”

Coachella is one of the biggest music festival in the calendar and is attended by several A-listers each year.

Among the attendees on the first night included Kendall Jenner, 23 and Justin Bieber’s wife Hailey Baldwin.

Last night main attraction was Childish Gambino who was the headline act on the MainStage.

Weekend one of the  Valley Music And Arts Festival, which takes place in the Southern California city of Indio, about 127 miles east of Los Angeles, continues on Saturday and Sunday.

Whilst weekend two takes place on April 19-21.
