Brit mother held in Dubai over ‘horse’ Facebook insult says ‘life is in ruins’

A British mother who is being held in Dubai over a 'horse' insult on Facebook says her life is in ruins.

Laleh Shahravesh said she has been left traumatised by the arrest at Dubai Airport when she arrived to pay respects at her ex-husband's funeral.

But the 55-year-old, who travelled with her daughter Paris, did not know that his second wife Samah Al Hammadi had complained to police that Ms Shahravesh had called her a 'horse' on Facebook three years ago.

After her husband of 18 years, Pedro Manuel Coreia Dos Santos, re-married to Samah Al Hammadi, she wrote: "I hope you go under the ground. Damn you. You left me for this horse."

A second post read: "You married a horse, you idiot."

Laleh is due in court in connection with the posts on Thursday but Samah, 42, has said she is willing to drop the case.

She said on Sunday: "One of the last messages he [Pedro] gave me before his death was that he deeply loved his daughter.

"I am willing to withdraw this case to honour my husband’s love for his daughter."

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Laleh says she feels like she is 'slowly dying' and is 'being destroyed mentally'.

She said: "My life is in ruins. I am told I could go to jail but all I want to do is go home and give my daughter Paris a big hug.

"I can’t bear to be away from her any longer and the thought of having to spend more time here fills me with dread. I don’t know how much longer I can continue. It is agony."

She now faces up to two years in jail and a fine of £50,000.

Tunisian-born Samah previously claimed Laleh had sent numerous disparaging messages to her and Portuguese Pedro since the divorce.

Laleh, of Richmond, Surrey, has been given bail but her passport was confiscated and she was living in a hotel, it is understood.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office earlier said: "Our staff are supporting a British woman and her family following her detention in the UAE."
