Health Secretary Matt Hancock has previously said he was unable to watch accusations from former chief aide Dominic Cummings because he was “saving lives”. But BBC’s Andrew Marr took the opportunity to grill Matt Hancock on the accusations to which the minister awkwardly shrugged and attempted to brush him off. Mr Hancock was then showed clips from the committee hearing to which a visibly frustrated Mr Hancock desperately defended himself.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr Show, Mr Hancock was bluntly asked whether he has been “honest and transparent” in the way he has conducted himself in office.

The health secretary said he has been adding he has appeared on several shows to be held accountable over the course of the pandemic.

Host Andrew Marr then clarified he was referring to Mr Cummings’ comment as he accused the minister for misleading Prime Minister Boris Johnson by stating those discharged from hospitals to care homes were undergoing tests.

During a press conference earlier in May, Mr Hancock admitted some left hospitals without being tested but has strongly denied that everyone was promised or had undergone testing.

But when Mr Hancock was presented with the comments, he awkwardly shrugged which adds to a long list of bizarre reactions when reporters have discussed Mr Cummings’ with him.

On the morning of Mr Cummings’ committee hearing, Mr Hancock spoke to reporters outside his house to tell people in the latest round of vaccinations to go and get their jabs.

But a jubilant Mr Hancock began running away and waving to reporters when they shouted questions regarding the committee hearing.

Once the hearing had finished, Mr Hancock was once again met with reporters outside his home and was asked his thoughts on the accusations.

Mr Hancock sheepishly said he had not watched it and said he was too busy “saving lives” before cutting the interview short.
