The Scottish politician claimed Northern Irish businesses that were already suffering from the uncertainty of post-Brexit trade relations with the EU have further been damaged by the “shambles” of the Internal Market Bill. She said: “Just like their counterparts in Kent and Scotland, what Northern Irish businesses need is clarity on the post-Brexit reality.

“The Minister must know that the last-minute shambles of the Internal Market Bill delivered the exact opposite and fails to provide much needed reassurance.

“Does the Minister appreciate the damage this lack of clarity is doing to Northern Irish businesses?”

But Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis promplty shut down the SNP MP’s claim.

He said: “Northern Ireland businesses are responding very positively to the paper we set out earlier in the summer.

“The UK Internal Market Bill delivers on that, it delivers the key thing of guaranteeing unfettered access.

“I do think it’s a bit rich for the Honourable Lady to be talking about this.

“We are delivering unfettered access that the SNP wants to absolutely bloc by putting another border between Scotland and the rest of the UK.”
