Special Counsel Robert Mueller sent his report to Attorney General William Barr on Friday, following a 22-month investigation of possible Russian connections in Donald Trump’s campaign. Members of Congress, the media and Trump have been waiting to find out the results over the past couple of days. A Justice Department official said the report summary would be released by 4pm EDT (8pm GMT).

Mr Trump has not seemed too worried and has spent the weekend at his golf club.

He previously said the probe was a witch hunt and a waste of time.

But he has remained silent about Friday’s conclusion of the Mueller probe.

Barr, the top U.S. law enforcement official, spent nine hours studying the report on Saturday and was back at the Justice Department on Sunday.

Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who appointed Mueller to lead the investigation, was also there.

What does the letter say?

Rep Jerry Nadler, the Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, tweeted earlier: “The Special Counsel states that ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.’”

The letter said: “The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 US president election.

“The Special Counsel’s investigation determined that there were two main Russian efforts to influence the 2016 campaign.

“The first involved attempts by a Russian organisation, the Internet Research Agency (IRA) to conduct disinformation and social media operations in the US designed to sow social discord, eventually with the aim of interfering with the election. 

“The Special Counsel did not find that any US person or Trump campaign official or associate conspired or knowingly coordinated with the IRA int its efforts, although the special counsel brought criminal charges against a number of Russian nationals and entities in connection with these activities.” 

In terms of the obstruction of justice, the letter said: “The Special Counsel states that ‘while this report does not include that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him’.” 

Mr Nadler previously said on CNN’s State of the Union: “We know there was collusion. 

“Why there’s been no indictments we don’t know.” 

Whatever the report concludes, Democrats have vowed to pursue investigations on a other issues involving Trump, including his business dealings to hush-money payments.

They called for the full release of the report, as well as documents backing up its findings, and have promised to subpoena any information they do not get. 

Many Republicans also want the report released, as they say it will vindicate Trump. 

But some have warned portions of it might need to remain confidential.
