In a Twitter rant, Tory MP John Redwood said the former Chancellor “never criticised the over-the-top EU demands”. He said Mr Sunak, who is in the running to become the next Tory Party leader and Prime Minister, “wanted to give over the money, over VAT, over the Northern Ireland Protocol, over fish and over trade”. Mr Redwood continued: “In office, Rishi increased migrant numbers, refused to cut VAT, increased lots of taxes, tried to water down legislation on the Northern Ireland Protocol, and thought Macron would help the UK No wonder people find his current posing as a low tax Eurosceptic difficult to believe.”
