David Ortiz gets police escort to Massachusetts hospital

David Ortiz aka “Big Papi” was transferred from his native Dominican Republic to a Massachusetts hospital late Monday.

The ex-Boston Red Sox slugger — who was wounded in an ambush-style shooting attack in Santo Domingo on Sunday — was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital via ambulance and with a police escort, video from a WBZ reporter shows.

Ortiz, 43, made the trip aboard a team jet, following a six-hour overnight surgery in which his gallblader and parts of his intestines and colon were removed.

Earlier on Monday, fans said a prayer for the three time World Series winner at Fenway Park.

The show is being moved weeks earlier to February 9 in 2020, which was thought to be an experiment that could continue in future years if it worked out well.

The 2021 show date was announced back in 2017 and it remains on February 28. Now we also know that the 2022 show will be held on February 27.
