Earlier this week, it was reported that Zara’s husband Mike Tindall had possibly signed up for this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, leading to speculation over whether more minor royals will need “to think of a way to make money”. Speaking on the latest episode of Palace Confidential, The Mail on Sunday’s Editor-at-Large Charlotte Griffiths suggested she the Queen’s eldest granddaughter should be a contestant on the BBC’s dancing competition.

After being asked where Mike’s reality television appearance is a potential “floodgate” for some members of the Royal Family to “test the boundaries”, Ms Griffiths said: “No really, I think Harry and Meghan might have opened that door a little bit sooner than Mike Tindall.

“But I do think actually you’re right that it’s unlikely he would have said yes, well if the Queen was alive.”

She added: “I could see Zara on Strictly.

“She’s not a HRH”, adding that the less senior royal “are going to think of a way to make money”.

She said she doesn’t see Zara being “bankrolled” by her uncle Charles.

Also speaking on the episode was the Daily Mail’s diary editor Richard Eden, he said: “We had a, sort of, flirtation with light entertainment in the past, when royals appeared in the 80s.

“It’s a Royal Knockout.”

He added that Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Edward appeared on the show.

He noted that it was “seen as a bit of a disaster”.

Ms Griffiths added that the show “was created by a royal” who “didn’t know anything about TV”.

Zara married Mike Tindall in 2011, weeks after Prince William and Kate’s royal wedding.

Following her birth in May 1981, Zara was not given a royal title, as her mother, Princess Anne wanted her to have a relatively normal life.

The decision was also made for Zara’s elder brother, Peter, who was born in 1977.

Over a decade after their wedding day, Zara and Mike are now proud parents to three children.
