Zara Tindall, 39, and her husband Mike, 42, celebrated the arrival of their first son and third child Lucas Philip Tindall on March 21. While it’s been more than a week since Zara gave birth, the couple are yet to share pictures of their little one with the public – and may decide against it altogether.
While senior Royal Family members usually present their newborns to the world with a formal press photoshoot soon after the birth, Zara is free from this custom.
That’s because unlike her royal cousins Prince William, 38, and Prince Harry, 36, Zara was raised without a royal title and has no standing within the monarchy.
Zara and her brother Peter Phillips were raised outside the royal bubble by their mother Princess Anne, 70, who rejected the Queen’s offer of titles and HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) styles for her children.
This means both Zara and Peter have been able to pursue careers outside the Royal Family and enjoy more privacy than some of their more senior royal relatives.
When it comes to royal baby traditions and customs Zara is under no pressure to conform to protocol.
By allowing Mike to announce the arrival of their son and share details of his birth on his rugby podcast, Zara has shown the world she has no intention of sticking to royal traditions.
This means that Zara and Mike could eschew sharing photos of their newborn with the public and little Lucas might not be seen for weeks or months.
Zara is not the only royal to have recently welcomed a baby, her cousin Princess Eugenie, 31, gave birth to a son, August last month.
While Eugenie, like Zara, is a non-working royal she has taken a very different approach when it comes to sharing baby photos.
Eugenie is a keen Instagram user and shared her first photo of little August online just hours after his birth.
Since his arrival, Eugenie has shared three new posts on Instagram with new photos of her little boy.
Last week Eugenie shared two new adorable photos of August to thank fans for wishing her a happy birthday on March 23.

The Instagram message read: “Thank you for the birthday love yesterday… I got the best present I could ask for!!”
The first photo showed a beaming Eugenie holding August in her arms as she smiled lovingly at her husband Jack.
The second photo showed little August peering over his father’s shoulder.
While Zara and Mike aren’t senior members of the monarchy they are much-loved members of the Windsor Family and regulars at royal events.
Fans may have hoped to see Baby Lucas make his debut at the Queen’s official birthday parade Trooping the Colour in June but the event has been called off for a second year due to COVID-19.
This being the case it remains unclear when the public might get their first glimpse of Zara and Mike’s little boy.
Mike is a keen Instagram user so may share a photo of his son on social or could even bring him in to feature on an upcoming episode of his podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby.
Lucas Philip will not receive a royal title, he is the Queen’s 10th great-grandchild and 22nd in line to the throne.
