Zara Tindall gives glimpse into Kate and William’s competitive marriage

Zara Tindall has given royal fans a rare glimpse into the “competitive” marriage of her cousin Prince William and his wife, Princess Kate.

Princess Anne’s only daughter and her husband Mike Tindall shared just how similar they are to their fellow royal couple.

In a previous appearance on Mike’s podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, Princess Kate revealed that she and William like to get competitive on the tennis court – something that Mike has now said is reflected in their 12-year marriage.

In an exclusive interview with Women’s Weekly, Mike said: “Ultimately, we’re two sports people, so if we’re playing table tennis neither of us wants to lose.

“It’s the same with board games. I thought that was a great side to see of the Princess of Wales: They’re the same [as us].”

The couple also shared that their children, all six of them combined, are also finding a competitive streak within them.

Like Kate and William, Zara and Mike also share three children – nine-year-old Mia, five-year-old Lena and two-year-old Lucas.

The couple shared that their three children get along well with Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Mike said: “Our kids play with their kids in this competition we have.”

Zara also agreed with Mike that “competition done the right way is healthy”.

She said: “It drives people to get better; for sports people it drives you to train, it drives you to push as hard as you can. You need that.

“I think our families are fairly competitive. We’re very much involved in sports. It’s definitely been handed down.”

Speaking of their eldest daughter, Mike said: “Mia doesn’t like losing at the moment.”

Laughing, Zara shared that “neither does” their youngest daughter, Lena.

She added: “Then Lucas is going to be even worse because he’s going to be trying to catch them up all the time. It’s definitely in there.”

Although all the children are close, Princess Charlotte is particularly close with Zara and Mike’s two daughters.

Previously speaking to the Telegraph, Mike Tindall hinted at their close bond and said: “Lena and obviously Louis are similar ages and Mia’s sort of in between Charlotte and George, and then you’ve got Peter’s children Savannah and Isla who are just a little bit older. James (Prince Edward’s son) is, well not exactly the ring leader, but he’s the oldest. So, yeah, it’s going to be a good little group.”
