Zara Tindall childhood: How Peter warned everyone – ‘DON’T go NEAR my sister!’

Zara Tindall is the only daughter of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips. She is the eldest granddaughter of Britain’s most prestigious family. But it turns out that her brother, like the millions around the globe, is just like a normal brother. So why exactly did he warn people to stay away from his sister?

Peter Philips is the Queen and Prince Philip’s eldest grandchild.

At the time of his birth, he was fifth in line to the throne, but is now the 15th in the line of succession.

Peter Phillips was the first legitimate grandchild of a monarch in more than 500 years to be born without a title or courtesy title.

His younger sister was born three-and-a-half years later.

In their early years, like most siblings, they fought often, with Peter clashing with his baby sister.

But, Peter was also said to be very protective of his sister.

In 2018, Peter Phillips told The Times: “Most little sisters are annoying and Zara was no exception.

“She tried to boss me around and tell me what to do.

“Wild is probably an unfair attribute to attach to her, but she was certainly at the centre of anything that was happening that was fun and boisterous.”

The siblings remained close through good and bad times.

When Peter and Zara were 11 and eight respectively when their parents, Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, announced their intention to separate.

In these times of hardships, Peter and Zara turned to one another.

Zara told The Times that the separation was sad for them both, but had been done in a way which limited the hurt on them both.

But in spite of the struggles, her brother was always there for her.

While at school together at Gordonstoun where Prince Philip had attended school, the pair remained close.

Zara told The Times: “I loved school, I loved sport and being with my mates all the time.

“I don’t know how much work I did. You do get homesick, but I had so much fun, and Pete was very protective.

“All his friends were too. They kept me out of trouble.

“After Dorset, I joined him at Gordonstoun.

“He hung out with a group of lads who liked to have fun, but he always knew how to get away with stuff.

“When he was made head boy, I thought, “How did you manage that?”

But when it came to boys, Peter was even more protective of his younger sister.

Zara told The Times: “I met Mike in 2003. In the beginning of our relationship, Pete was very watchful of how Mike treated me. He wanted the best for me.

“Did I ever hook up with any of his friends?

“No way. It was the complete opposite: ‘Don’t go near my sister.’”

She added that this protectiveness is something she admires in her big brother.

Zara revealed that she, in fact, has admired and looked up to her brother throughout her whole life.

She told The Times: “Pete is someone who I’ve looked up to all my life.

“When I was growing up, he was a great person to have around, he was very level-headed, very calm, considered and grounded.

“He’ll be there no matter what I need.”
