US-based royal commentator Marlene Koenig argued the feeling in America is very much in support of Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. Following the Oprah Winfrey interview, Ms Koenig insisted there is a feeling of sympathy and empathy towards the Duchess for how she has been treated while in the UK. During an interview with Express.co.uk, Ms Koenig argued US fans are also hotly anticipating Meghan and Prince Harry’s next steps in California.
Ms Koenig said: “There is an element of the US population who think ‘you hurt our girl’.
“There is definitely this feeling, understandably, in the black community.
“As they saw how this lovely young woman was treated by the British press.”
Ms Koenig also reflected on the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the US.

She insisted that there remained questions on royal fans’ minds as to what the pair would do next as they have no plans to rejoin the Royal Family as working royals.
She said: “They definitely support Meghan, but I think right now, I am not convinced Meghan and Harry are going to keep quiet about this.
“When you are feeding information to royal commentator Omid Scobie or Gayle King you are not keeping things private, you are letting it out there.
“Meghan and Harry are living in California which is a very different lifestyle than even living on the east coast in the US.
Meghan and Harry: Prince Charles to give 'detail' says expert
“Once we move out of the pandemic, the real question will be as they have these deals with Netflix and Spotify, the question is what will they be doing.
“There is nothing yet besides one podcast, what they have been doing with Archewell is donating money to different things, including that journalist organisation to help sponsor diversity in British newsrooms.”
Ms Koenig also reflected on the treatment of Meghan Markle in comparison to Kate Middleton and argued in some instances it was clearly unfair.
She added: “Someone compiled pictures of Kate and Meghan and showed that Kate wore an over the shoulder dress and the comments saying how pretty she is.
“When Meghan wears it, she is considered to be breaking protocol.
“In essence, I think Meghan Markle was the whipping boy of the press.
“No matter what she did, she was intelligent and a career woman and was coming into a situation where they perhaps should have lived together for a while to see what Royal Family life was like.”
