Mr Biden’s press secretary heaped praise on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex yesterday, thanking the couple for opening up on their experiences of mental health. Jen Psaki said the President believed in the power of individuals speaking out when asked Mr Biden’s view on the bombshell interview that has thrown the Royal Family into crisis.

She said: “For anyone to come forward and speak about their own struggles with mental health and tell their own personal story, that takes courage and that’s certainly something the president believes.”

While the White House praised the couple for speaking out about their experiences with mental health, it refused to be drawn on other aspects of the interview.

Mr Biden’s press secretary said: “We aren’t going to provide additional commentary from here on behalf of the president or others given these are private citizens, sharing their own story and their own struggles.”

But Express.co.uk readers have hit out at the US President, and claimed Mr Biden shouldn’t have responded to the interview at all.

One person said: “This just goes to show how much of a donkey Biden is.

“He should have shown some diplomacy and kept his trap shut.

“I hope this odious man is never invited to the UK, special relationship or not.

“As for Harry and his wife, I am absolutely disgusted with them they have no shame.”

A second person said: “Biden the biggest joke the USA has ever pulled out of a hat.

“We won’t expect a state visit then. What a relief. That will save a few bob.

A third wrote: “How very diplomatic of him to wade in against Buckingham palace and the Queen, bring back Trump!”

Another user simply said: “Biden keep out.”

Another reader called for the return of Biden’s predecessor, and said: “Come back Donald – we miss you.”

One person even suggested the US President should start paying for the couple’s security – something that has been a contentious topic since the Duke and Duchess decided to step down as senior members of the Royal Family last year.

They wrote: “Excellent he can pay for their security.”

Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah first aired in the US on Sunday night, and saw the couple make several stark allegations against the Royal Family.

The couple accused the institution of failing to support Meghan when she reported being suicidal.

They also accuse an unmanned member of the Royal Family of racism.

Buckingham Palace has yet to release a statement in response to Meghan and Harry’s allegations.
