Wrexham's got its own Hollywood sign on an old slag heap

Wrexham’s unlikely transformation into one of the UK’s glitziest places is complete.

A huge Hollywood-style sign has appeared in the town as it prepares for international stardom.

Local football team Wrexham AFC, who play in the fifth tier of English football, have been bought out by showbiz stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The move is likely to put the area on the map like never before – and it looks like Wrexham is really leaning into its new found star status.

It’s unclear if the duo are behind the new addition to the town’s skyline – but you can hardly rule it out.

The actors have also signed a deal with American broadcaster FX to make a documentary about their time at the club called ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

The club’s social media channels posted a picture of the sign, adding: ‘Wrexham, it’s always been the Hollywood of Europe, apparently…’

Resident Michael Roberts posted a picture of the installation on Twitter and spoke to local newspaper, The Leader.

He said: ‘There were about six lads putting the sign up. They were in a white 4×4.

‘Whoever has done it has put a lot of effort into it and must have had permission to get through the gate at the back of the slag heap.’

It promises to be an interesting few years for the North Wales town and the football team, the third oldest in the world.

The charismatic investors won the backing of 98.6% of supporters to buy the club and have promised to inject around £2 million into the club to revive its fortunes.

A major new sponsorship deal has already been announced with TikTok.

Demand for season tickets is said to be at ‘unprecedented’ levels and the new owners are also reportedly set to renovate the team’s stadium, the Racecourse Ground.
