Royal expert Angela Levin heaped praise on the future Queen, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Sophie, Countess of Wessex for their stoic performances at the service in central London. All three put aside the “dark cloud” created by the 95-year-old monarch’s absence who was “there in spirit”, according to Ms Levin.
The Queen had been due to attend but had to pull out at the last minute after spraining her back, Buckingham Palace said yesterday morning.
Appearing on GB News, the royal author paid tribute to the Queen’s three capable understudies.
Ms Levin said: “She (the Queen) apparently watched it on television, so she was there in spirit, but of course not in herself.
“I think we all feel an age is coming to end, but we don’t know how long and I think that’s quite right too really.
“You couldn’t have asked for more wonderful women up there on the balcony.
“I think they’re all dedicated to the monarchy, they work tremendously hard.
“They don’t try and gain fame for themselves.
“I think they put themselves into keeping the monarchy going and working as hard as they can for the Queen.

All three frontline royals looked on as wreaths were laid at the Cenotaph from one of the balconies of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
During the ceremony, a two-minute silence was observed and high-profile figures including Boris Johnson and Sir Keir Starmer laid wreaths.
Ms Levin’s comments came just a day after Kate, 39, was lauded for showing “respect, decency and occasion” during the ceremony.
The future queen appeared to be fighting back tears during the ceremony which honours all the service personnel who have given their lives in service of the United Kingdom.
ProudofGB posted: “This is where we excel – respect, decency and occasion!!
“We have a Royal Family to be proud of which has definitely been made better by the addition of the Duchess of Cambridge.”
Her appearance came after Buckingham Palace released a statement explaining the Queen’s absence.
It read: “The Queen, having sprained her back, has decided this morning with great regret that she will not be able to attend today’s Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph.
“Her Majesty is disappointed that she will miss the service.”
