Woman shares ‘genius’ trick to end awkward phone calls without seeming rude

There are times when you just don’t want to speak to someone on the phone.

Maybe you’re not interested in the conversation, or maybe you’re just trying to take some time for yourself.

But it can be difficult to find a tactful way to break off the chat without leaving the other person feeling a little dejected.

To this end, a YouTube star went viral after sharing a “genius” way to stop the conversation in its tracks without the other person suspecting a thing.

Appearing on the YouTube series, Unfiltered with Zane and Heath, social media personality Woah Vicky shared a smartphone life hack for getting out of a phone call quickly.

When Vicky’s phone went off while recording the show, she reluctantly answered without knowing who was on the other end.

She said: “Oh wassup.”

Vicky then starts to say something else, but while she’s talking she could soon be seen switching her phone to Airplane Mode.

Revealing her screen, she said: “I do this to people when I wanna hang up.”

The YouTuber explained that when she does this, the call is disconnected – but the person on the other end receives a message saying “call failed” instead of “call ended”.

This gives the impression she was unwillingly cut off – rather than intentionally pushing the caller away.

“That is genius,” proclaimed one of the guys on the show.

Vicky nods, adding: “I always do that. It will say reconnecting.”

But sneakily, the call will do no such thing, as her phone is still unreachable.

Unfortunately the person calling Vicky may well have witnessed her rejection after the clip of the moment on TikTok reached nearly three million likes, and was shared over 80,000 times by people spreading the hack.

Many stitched the video with their shocked reactions, with one by @chrisbach1986maccers getting a lot of attention.

Thousands also took the time to comment, with one saying: “Ok but she’s teaching me things.”

Another wrote: “She’s actually a secret genius.” Smartest thing I’ve ever seen,” added a third.

A different user added: “The power I now hold is dangerous.”
