Woman gives birth at Notting Hill Carnival while crowd sings ‘she's had a baby’
A woman has given birth to a baby at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival as people and paramedics rushed to help.
Emergency services were called to the area in west London on Sunday at 6.45pm.
Videos posted online show police assisting a woman, with cheers in the background from the crowd saying: ‘She’s had a baby’, MyLondon reports.
A London Ambulance spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 6.45pm on Sunday August 28 to reports of a person in labour within the footprint of Notting Hill Carnival.
‘We treated an adult and baby at the scene and took them to hospital as a priority.’
It is not known whether the woman was attending the carnival or not.
More than a million have attended this year’s Notting Hill Carnival, which concludes today and is held annually every August bank holiday.
It is the first time it has been held in person since 2019 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, which put the famous event on hold in 2020 and 2021.
Celebrations are held between Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park and expands into the areas of Kensington and Notting Hill.
The music, dancing food and drink is rooted in Caribbean culture, influenced by the Windrush generation who largely settled in the Notting Hill area when they moved over.
Rhaune Laslett set up the carnival to celebrate its rich cultural diversity.
After 55 years, it is now the second biggest carnival in the world, behind that of Rio’s in Brazil.
