Woman 'flabbergasted' to find 'two inch nail' in Müller Corner yoghurt
A woman has spoken of her shock after finding a nail while tucking into her breakfast yoghurt.
Clare Hough, 45, from Brough in East Yorkshire, said she was ‘flabbergasted’ to discover the ‘two inch long’ black metal nail in the yoghurt section of a Müller Corner.
She was eating the yoghurt for a quick breakfast earlier this week when she found the item.
She said: ’It was one of those Müller Corner ones, it was a toffee hoop one. I’d eaten quite a lot of it already when I saw it. I was just shocked and surprised.
‘I could have swallowed it. A child could have eaten it and swallowed it because children eat those sorts of yoghurts.’
She’d bought the yogurts while they were on offer from her local branch of Morrisons on September 11 for 68p.
‘They had the yoghurt on offer at Morrison’s sometimes so I got some,’ she continued.
‘I was eating through it and there was this nail that was a good inch or two inches long in the actual yoghurt compartment.
‘It was a few days ago on Monday or Tuesday, I was due at work so it was just a quick breakfast before. I was just flabbergasted. Astonished.’
Müller has moved to reassure customers after the incident. They say their products are subject to extensive checks and that the production process takes place within a sealed filling line before it is scanned by an x-ray machine.
A spokesman said: ‘The products we make are subject to extensive checks and x-ray scans to ensure they meet the highest standards of product quality, and we would encourage the individual to contact our customer service team so that we can carry out a full investigation.
‘It is important to stress that in our production facility, yogurt passes through a filter, and the whole process takes place within an entirely sealed and automated filling line. The completed product is then scanned by an x-ray machine.’
Ms Hough’s experience joins a long list of others who have found unwanted items in their food.
People have reported finding insects, rodents, frogs and even the odd condom after peeling back the wrapper to enjoy whatever it is they’ve bought.
