Woman caught speeding at 103mph 'didn't realise' she was back in England

A Romanian woman caught speeding at 103mph down the M4 ‘didn’t realise’ she was back in England, a court heard.

Mariana Minea, 30, had just returned from her homeland when she was clocked more than 30mph above the limit in the early hours of October 25 last year.

She told Swindon Magistrates’ Court yesterday: ‘The weather was alright. I had just come back from Romania. Everything was really late.

‘I think I didn’t realise I was in England, so I didn’t pay attention to the speed to be honest.’

Minea, from Trowbridge, Wilshire, admitted speeding.

Chair of the bench Simon Wolfensohn said: ‘This was a serious speed, but having heard about all of the circumstances of the case we feel it’s appropriate to deal with this by imposing penalty points on your licence.’

In addition to a £576 fine, Minea received six penalty points.

She was also ordered to pay £110 costs to Wiltshire Police, which brought the prosecution, and a £58 surcharge.
