Woman arrested after ‘Trump baby blimp deflated’ during protests in London
The incident took place near Parliament Square at around 5pm. A pro-Trump supporter was then pictured being led away from the crowd by police officers. A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: “As of 5pm on Tuesday, 4 June, one female has been arrested for being in possession of a pointed/bladed article.”
A 20ft Trump baby blimp, took to the skies after permission was granted by the Greater London Authority.
A team of organisers wearing red jumpsuits and hats marked “Trump Babysitters” launched an inflatable of the nappy-clad president clutching a mobile phone to cheers from dozens of onlookers at Parliament Square.
The group estimated tens of thousands of protesters turned out for the largely peaceful demonstrations.
It is significantly fewer than an estimated 250,000 who gathered when Mr Trump visited the UK on July 13 last year.
Meanwhile other protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square before marching to Whitehall.
A 16ft talking robot of the President sitting on a gold toilet was also on display elsewhere in the Capital.
The figure repeated the phrases “no collusion”, “you are fake news” and “I’m a very stable genius”
There were no significant protests outside of London.
Scotland Yard confirmed more than 3,182 officers deployed on day two of Mr Trump’s visit to the UK.
Scotland Yard’s Deputy Commissioner Sir Steve House told the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee on Tuesday the policing plan has so far worked “effectively”.
He said the force is not in a position to estimate how much the operation will cost but added the US President’s last visit to the capital cost the Met about £2.9 million.
