Woman arrested after thumping on Prince Andrew's window in royal security breach
A woman has been arrested after she ran up to Prince Andrew’s car and banged on the window in a royal security breach.
The woman, who has not been named, dashed up to the Duke of York’s black Range Rover as he drove into the Windsor estate on Friday morning.
The incident was captured on camera.
In photographs, the woman can be seen thumping on Andrew’s window as he looks alarmed and nervously glances towards her.
The 50-year-old woman was later seen speaking to a man holding a hand-held radio who is thought to be a royal protection officer.
Police said she was later arrested.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said officers were called to Albert Road, Windsor at around 10am.
They added: ‘A 50-year-old woman, of no fixed abode, has been arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to caused harassment/alarm/distress.’
She has since been released on bail.
The incident comes after it emerged the Queen has decided to cancel her traditional pre-Christmas lunch due to surging levels of Omicron cases in the UK.
It is understood the decision is a precaution as her Majesty felt it ‘could put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk if it went ahead’.
Last year’s gathering was also scrapped because of the pandemic.
It is understood the lunch was planned to take place on Tuesday, December 21.
The pre-Christmas celebration gives the head of state a chance to catch up with relatives who are unable to travel to Norfolk for Christmas Day.
The Queen is understood to still be committed to hosting her immediate family at Sandringham in Norfolk, but is expected to take advice in the next few days as to whether it is safe to do so, according to the Daily Mirror.
