Woman and two children die in horror crash with double-decker bus

A three-way crash saw the deaths of a woman and two children, including a six-year-old boy.

A silver Vauxhall Meriva, a blue Toyota Aygo and a double-decker bus collided on the A61 in North Yorkshire.

Police and paramedics were called to the road in the Ripon area, between South Stainley and Ripley, after 2.20pm yesterday.

The Vauxhall and Toyota were travelling south, towards Ripley, and the bus was going in the opposite direction.

All three people in the Vauxhall were killed following the crash – a woman in her 30s, a teenage girl and a six-year-old boy.

Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The bus driver was taken to hospital with leg injuries, and some of its passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The two people in the Toyota were not injured.

The road was closed so the emergency services could attend and for investigations to be carried out. It reopened at around 11.30pm yesterday.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and particularly dashcam footage or CCTV from the area at the time.
