Woman, 87, suffers broken arm in ‘deplorable’ robbery in Streatham

An 87-year-old woman was left with a broken arm after she was robbed by a “deplorable thug” as she walked along a street in south London.

The victim had been to meet a friend when she was attacked from behind at around 11.30am on Saturday 16 March in Pendennis Road, Streatham.

She was knocked off her feet during the attack and saw the man run off, but was unable to get up because she was in so much pain.

A member of the public came to help and she was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Her right arm was broken and she needed stitches to her hand.

Shortly after the brutal robbery items were bought on Streatham High Road using her stolen cards.

The attacker is described as slim, dressed in black trousers and wore a black jacket with the hood up.

Detective Constable Caroline Benjamin said: “This was a horrible and cynical attack on a vulnerable and defenceless woman.

“The victim is now too scared to walk around on her own and was left unable to sleep in her bed due to the pain of her injuries.

“She prides herself on being a person who looks after other people, but she now has to rely on others to bring her meals and help her with her affairs.

“This deplorable thug needs to be brought to justice as soon as possible and I am appealing to the public to help.”
