Pictures taken on Friday morning showed a woman rushing up to the Duke of York’s black Range Rover and banging on the window. It was captured as the 61-year-old royal drove through the Queen’s estate in Berkshire.
In the photographs, Andrew looks alarmed and glances towards the woman.
She was later seen speaking to a man holding a hand-held radio who is thought to be a royal protection officer.
Thames Valley Police said a 50-year-old woman was arrested.
A spokesperson said officers were called to Albert Road, Windsor at around 10am on Friday.
They added: “A 50-year-old woman, of no fixed abode, has been arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to caused harassment/alarm/distress.”
She has since been released on bail.
News of the incident emerged as the Queen cancelled her traditional pre-Christmas lunch due to surging levels of Omicron cases.
Her Majesty reportedly took the precautionary measure after she felt that going ahead “could put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk if it went ahead”.
