Left-wing staffers at the UKGovcamp event forum claimed some Britons were “uneducated” and influenced by so-called online clickbait, while others were oblivious to the apparent rise of the far-right, leaked papers reveal. At least 300 employees on the taxpayer payroll took part in the discussion about central of local government issues.

Staff from 16 Government departments, including the Home Office, Cabinet Office and Foreign Office were understood to be in attendance.

The three-day virtual discussion is also said to have featured participants from the BBC, Public Health England and almost 40 local councils.

Civil servants and public sector workers are meant to remain impartial and stay away from venturing into the political debate.

But messages uncovered from the event suggest this was far from the case.

Typed conference notes seen by the Mail on Sunday found one session was titled “Government is political. We need to be more ready to talk about that”.

Another topic of discussion was called “Resisting fascism – are you a check or a balance?”.

The debate saw attendees voice concerns over the perceived “rising fascism” threat faced here in the UK and oversees, according to reports.

Other notes reportedly uncovered, suggested some members of the public did not have the required knowledge to recognise certain forms of fascism.

One message read: “Many people don’t have the educational background/ tools to unpick fascist messaging and ideas.”

Meanwhile another note claimed “it’s middle-aged people who jump on clickbait online news and hold more polarised views”.

It adds while “older people in authority with extreme views have a platform and are able to influence many more people”.

A member of the woke brigade even suggested the so-called far-right had shut down debate in the UK.

In one extreme message they wrote “the rise of the Far Right and being unable to voice my disagreements at what is happening in Western societies – it scares me, and makes me question whether I can continue to be a civil servant”.

In a statement, UKGovcamp distanced itself from the UK Government and the Civil Service.

It adds a Code of Conduct is in place to ensure “frank, open and supportive discussions” during the annual event.

It said: “UKGovcamp is not affiliated with the Government or the Civil Service.

“People who come to UKGovcamp come from all over the world. The unconference agenda is set by the people who turn up. UKGovcamp Organisers do not set the agenda.

“UKGovcamp aims to provide attendees with a safe space to enable open conversations about topics that can be hard.

“We have a Code of Conduct that all attendees are bound by that gives people the safe space (either physical or on-line) to hold frank, open and supportive discussions.

“The ‘session grid’ contains most sessions and links to session notes taken during the session by a volunteer.

“Some sessions do not have notes taken, or are not on the grid. The grid has not been modified since January and the notes remain available to UKGovcamp 2021 attendees.”
