William shares sweet pic with George, Charlotte and Louis ahead of Father’s Day
Prince William attends opening of Centrepoint centre in Peckham
Proud dad William’s three beaming children help make him the Prince of Smiles for Father’s Day.
A heartwarming snap released for the occasion shows the Prince of Wales, 40, perched between Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, eight, as livewire Prince Louis, five, grabs him for a hug.
The shot of all four in blue was taken earlier this year at the Windsor Estate, Berks near the family’s Adelaide Cottage home, by Millie Pilkington.
William has previously said: “Having children is the biggest life-changing moment, it really is.
“I think when you’ve been through something traumatic in life, [like] your dad not being around, my mother dying when I was younger, the emotions come back, in leaps and bounds.”
He added of wife Kate, 41: “We support each other and go through those moments together.”
Meanwhile, the Prince is to launch a major project to combat homelessness and aims to expose his children to the reality of life on the street, he revealed on Saturday.
The Prince of Wales, who turns 41 on Wednesday, will follow in the footsteps of his mother Princess Diana, who took both him and brother Harry to homeless shelters when they were children.
He also let slip plans for social housing on the Duchy of Cornwall estate.
William said of his project plans: “It’s nerve-racking but I’m really excited. I’ve been waiting for the right time to do this.” Though he is keeping details under wraps until the end of the month, William is adamant it will have a “tangible impact” and provide “living conditions up and down the country that improve people’s lives who need that first rung of the ladder.”
Focusing on educating his three children, William said: “When I left this morning, one of the things I was thinking was, ‘When is the right time to bring George or Charlotte or Louis to a homeless organisation?’ I think when I can balance it with their schooling, they will definitely be exposed to it. On the school run we talk about what we see. When we were in London, driving backwards and forwards, we regularly used to see people sitting outside supermarkets and we’d talk about it.
“I’d say to the children, ‘Why are they there? What’s going on?’
“I think it’s in all our interests, it’s the right thing to do to expose the children – at the right stage, in the right dialogue – so they have an understanding.
“They will grow up knowing that some of us are very fortunate, some of us need a little bit of a helping hand, some of us need to do a bit more where we can help others improve their lives.”
William was speaking at the opening of a new development of flats in Peckham, south-east London for 33 young people from Centrepoint, the first charity of which William became patron in 2005.
When asked if he has plans to find space for homeless people on the 130,000-acre Duchy of Cornwall estate, William said: “There is. Absolutely. Social housing. You’ll see that when it’s ready. I’m no policy expert, but I push it when I can.”
