Prince William appears to comfort Kate

Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales, reportedly have unusual sleeping arrangements when staying at Apartment 1A inside Kensington Palace.

The couple moved out of the £635million London pad in September last year to live closer to their children’s school, Lambrook School near Ascot, Berkshire.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, now reside at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

However, the pair still stay at the flat that was once their home when carrying out work in the capital.

And when they do, they sleep where you might not expect.

According to various reports, the floor plan of 1A Kensington Palace is unique. Instead of sleeping on the first floor of the property, the couple sleep downstairs.

It has been widely reported that the property has two of its master bedrooms on the ground floor meaning the couple could also sleep apart if they wished.

Their employees sleep in the staff quarters situated on the upper floor of the three master room abode which also boasts five reception rooms, dressing rooms, and a night and day nursery.

William and Kate renovated the property before moving into Kensington Palace, built in 1605, spending the equivalent today of more than £1.5million.

Occasionally, glimpses inside their palace apartment walls have been garnered.

In 2016, Barack and Michelle Obama visited the apartments and fans could then see inside the drawing room which featured golden accessories, impressive paintings and antique ornaments.

Prince George, who was just a toddler at the time, could be seen sitting on a little rocking horse wearing a cute dressing gown.

While the drawing room looks lavishly decorated, it appears the royals have taken a more down-to-earth approach when it comes to the other rooms.

When visiting the National Museum of Architecture and Design in Stockholm in 2016, Kate told IKEA’s creative director Marcus Engman that she fit Prince George’s room with the Swedish brand’s furniture.

Mr Engman said in response: “I’m proud that we can suit everybody. That’s what we want IKEA to be – for the many people of the world, both royalty and ordinary people.”
