William and Kate’s ‘terrific rows’ are ‘kept under control’ – claim

Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales have “terrific rows” but they never escalate, one royal author has claimed. Since tying the knot in a spectacular royal wedding in April 2011, William and Kate have raised three loveable children, Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four. William and Kate’s marriage is not “perfect” but they know the secret to making it a success, claimed Tom Quinn, author of Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family.

The royal author explained: “Someone who worked for Kensington Palace told me they do have rows. It’s not a perfect marriage. They have terrific rows.”

But, Quinn continued, “where some couples have a row and throw heavy vases at each other, William and Kate throw cushions at each other. It’s always kept under control”.

The royal author attributes the couple’s measured approach to the late Queen’s legacy.

Queen Elizabeth II embodied the mantra at the heart of the Firm: “Never complain, never explain.”

The late Queen understood the importance of maintaining a dignified silence during times of great tumult.

“Because William adopts the manners and ways of behaving of his grandmother and Kate is very good at not complaining, both of them have stuck to the thing that made Queen Elizabeth II such a remarkable monarch,” Quinn explained.

He continued: “They very rarely complain and when they do it’s always in measured terms.”

By keeping their affairs private, William and Kate have also attracted less “scrutiny” than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the royal author suggested.

“They are less picked apart than Harry and Meghan,” he claimed.

The dynamics between the two brothers and their spouses are strikingly similar to those of their ancestors, another royal author has claimed.

Andrew Larman, author of the new book The Windsors at War, described both Kate and Meghan as “strong women”, saying they have had a great influence on their husbands in recent years.

Appearing on an episode of the Royally Us podcast last month, he said: “Wallis Simpson and Edward married in 1937, and what Edward wanted for his advice was an HRH title which the Royal Family absolutely refused under any circumstances. They did not believe that she was entitled to anything.

“She was despised and seen as someone who had caused more damage to the monarchy than anyone since Oliver Cromwell. So essentially, the idea is that she was kept at arm’s length.”

He continued: “There is no doubt whatsoever that the relationship between William and Harry has loads of parallels with that of the Duke of Windsor and George VI. What you can see is both Harry and William are married to very strong women.

“There’s very much a sense that the wives have influenced their thinking, and have influenced their actions towards each other. And it’s exactly the same thing with George VI and the Duke of Windsor; Wallis and Queen Elizabeth were both very strong women as well.”

The tension between the Duke of Windsor and George VI is well-documented, with the brothers primarily clashing over finances and Wallis Simpson, the twice-divorced socialite Edward abdicated the throne to marry.

As historian Andrew Lownie told Express.co.uk: “There were tensions from the beginning over titles — Wallis was not made HRH because no one thought the marriage would last — and finances where David was not completely honest about how much wealth he had accumulated as Prince of Wales.

“By 1936 there was a complete breakdown in trust as now and with the same growing sense of resentment from the brother who had chosen to give up family responsibilities and go into exile.”

Harry and William’s rift has reportedly widened following the release of the Duke’s tell-all memoir, Spare.

At one point in the book, Harry recounts a physical altercation he had with his brother.

Kate’s relationship with Meghan also comes under scrutiny in the book, which is said to have further strained the brothers’ relationship.
